Classroom

A sport management major in the School of Kinesiology, Carl Hagelin has been named to the CCHA Scholar-Athlete Team in both of the two seasons in which he’s been eligible. Additionally, he has received a U-M Athletic Academic Achievement award in each of his three years in Ann Arbor.

Character

Hagelin has made a positive impact on team chemistry since he first arrived on campus as a freshman in 2007-08. He’s been one of the hardest working, most dedicated players on the ice, in the weight room and in the classroom. Partway through his junior season in 2009-10, the team held a vote to name alternate captains and Hagelin was one of two players selected. At the time, coach Red Berenson said, “It’s pretty easy to see he’s our hardest working player in practice, on the ice and off the ice. He’s very studious, very serious about school, about hockey, about everything. He’s a very easy player to look up to if you’re a younger player on this team.”

Community

Despite the team’s rigorous playing and training schedule, Hagelin has been involved in visits to the U-M Mott Children’s Hospital, as well as events for Habitat for Humanity and U-Meet the Athlete.

Competition

Hagelin has blossomed into a premier scorer through his first three seasons, improving his marks for goals, assists and points each season. In his junior season, Hagelin registered 50 points on 19 goals and 31 assists. He led the Wolverines in points and assists in 2009-10, while ranking 11th and 12th in the country, respectively. His 103 career points put him among the top 10 scorers nationally in the class of 2011.
