Classroom

Chris Barton is a three-time Hockey East All-Academic selection and a two-time Dean’s List honoree. A business management major, he maintains a 3.47 GPA and is on track to graduate in May of 2011. Barton also interned in the Athletic Department in the spring of 2010, helping to rewrite the Merrimack Student-Athlete Code of Conduct.

Character

Barton is the first two-time captain at Merrimack in more than 10 years and has not missed a game in his three years. Coming to Merrimack from Western Canada, Barton made the adjustment seamlessly on and off the ice and is one of the most popular student-athletes on campus.

Community

Barton works with numerous charitable foundations including the Lawrence Boys and Girls Club, the Best Buddies Club and the Wounded Warriors. In addition, he assists on Move-In Day on the Merrimack campus, helping new students feel more comfortable on campus. Barton is also a regular at other sporting events on campus, rooting on his peers.

Competition

Playing in all 105 games in his first three years at Merrimack, Barton scored 19 goals last season, the most by a Warrior since 2001-02. He was tied for fourth in Hockey East in goals last season and has finished in the top three on his team in scoring in each of his first three seasons. Barton was the Hockey East runner-up for the Sportsmanship Award.
