Paul Dainton is a psychology major with a 2.926 GPA. Within his course work, he has served as a research assistant for two years and is currently in his second year as a Teaching Assistant for Abnormal Psychology.

Character

Dainton’s character can be highlighted by the fact that he has been named team captain for the 2010-11 season — a rare feat for a goalie as it has only happened seven other times at UMass since 1900. Dainton has the respect of his teammates, his coaches and his professors with his diligent work ethic, his quick smile and his ability to help those around him learn and succeed.

Community

Along with being an active member within the UMass hockey team’s volunteer efforts within the local community (reading at elementary schools, working at community fundraisers, clinics for local youth organizations), Dainton is an active member of Big Brothers/Big Sisters. He is also the team liaison with the organization helping pair children with several of his teammates. Additionally, Dainton volunteers at the Hampshire County Court of Corrections where he helps inmates with counseling on Decisional Training so that upon release they are capable of making better judgments, which will hopefully lead to fewer repeat offenders.

Competition

Dainton is a three-year starter in goal with a 39-43-7 record in 92 games played at UMass. For his career, he has a 2.70 goals against average and a .908 save percentage. Statistically, he ranks 2nd at UMass in career victories, goals-against-average and save percentage. Dainton ranks just behind former UMass All-American, NHL starter and Olympian Jonathan Quick in terms of GAA and save percentage.
